I'VE LOVED YOU SO LONG (Cert 12A)

Quad, Derby, 2pm

TODAY'S film screening sees Kristin Scott Thomas star in I've Loved You So Long – a fine example of classy continental film-making.

Scott Thomas plays Juliette, a middle-aged woman who re-enters her sister Lea's (Elsa Zylberstein) life after an absence of 15 years.

Lea has a husband, disabled father-in-law and two adopted children to look after. Juliette has a fragile state of mind and a gap in her life to explain.

Philippe Claudel's precisely unravelled drama is blessed with two moving performances. Zylberstein judges her role beautifully but Scott Thomas is simply astonishing. Both make the film well worth viewing.

For the Midweek Treat, Qt has joined forces with Derby's new arts centre Quad to revive the old-style midweek matinee to city centre film-going.

Each Wednesday at 2pm the Derby Evening Telegraph's film critic Nigel Powlson will introduce a new film for you to enjoy for a bargain admission price of £5 (£4 concessions) including a free tea or coffee and biscuits.

NEXT WEEK: The Coen brothers Burn After Reading.
