Milky Way or Bradshaw Way?
THE incomparable Sir Patrick Moore will be mourned as keenly in Derby as anywhere, because of his support for local amateur astronomers and his several visits to address meetings in the city over the years.
Not that they always went smoothly – at least as far as the travel was concerned.
On at least two occasions, that instantly recognisable high-speed voice came through on the Derby Telegraph newsdesk telephone:
"Hello, it's Patrick Moore, I'm supposed to be at the Assembly Rooms and I've no idea where I am at present."
He may have known the outer limits of the solar system like the back of his hand – but the mysteries of Derby's inner ring road were beyond his comprehension. He wasn't the first or the last.
