Mock plane cabin boosts student skills at Derby College
A mock aeroplane interior has been put up at Derby College's Roundhouse campus to help students on a new cabin crew skills course gain practical skills.
Part of a classroom at the campus has been kitted out with three rows of passenger seats, a check-in desk, security scanner and equipment such as refreshment and duty-free trolleys and life-jackets to enable the 24 students to practice key airline cabin crew tasks.

Lecturer Jane Lanceley, who worked for British Airways as a flight attendant for 11 years before moving into teaching, said: "The course was launched in September and is designed to introduce the students to all the key aspects of working life as a member of cabin crew and to give them a head start in applying for jobs in this extremely competitive market.
"It is important to create a realistic workplace environment for them and introduce best practice from the start from the equipment they use to the uniforms that they all wear.

"As well as practical work within college, we have organised a number of industry visits including emergency training at the British Airways training centre at Heathrow Airport."
Among the cabin crew students is Lance Clark, 19, from Denby, who said: "This is a great course and it is really useful to be able to practice with the proper equipment."
Abigail Clarke-Roome, 16, from Derby, added: "I am planning to apply to the airlines when I am 18 and I hope this will give me the edge for the interviews.
"I have got my heart set on working in this industry as it is a fantastic opportunity to have a job that is different every day and of course to see something of the world."
And Rose Jackson, 17, from Derby, said: "I am hoping to work for BA but I know there will be lot of competition for jobs. This course has given me a lot more confidence to apply for the jobs and we really feel the part now that we have uniforms and get to practice with the proper equipment."
