"He's just a smashing lad, a likeable lad.

"It's very unusual and very out of character for Dale not to return with his friends and be in touch with anybody. He's always come home fine."

Police say Dale was last seen at the Q Club, Corporation Street, at about 5.30am on New Year's Day.

He said: "Dale sent a text message to his mother at around 8.30pm to wish her a happy new year and to say that he had little battery left on his phone.

"Since that time no-one has been able to contact him."

Mrs Rowlinson-Bates said that, when Dale did not return, she became concerned.

She said: "I contacted family and they hadn't heard from him and his friends hadn't either.

"He normally leaves with them but on this occasion he didn't.

"Nobody can seem to shed any light on it.

"The fact nobody has seen him leave the rave just doesn't make sense."

A police spokesman said officers in Derbyshire were liaising with colleagues in the West Midlands to try to locate Dale.

No-one at the Q Club was available for comment.

A former pupil of Paulet High School in Stapenhill, Dale is currently unemployed, having previously worked at Johnson Controls and Waterstones as a hub worker.

His family moved to Coton Park from Stapenhill in August.

Anyone who might have seen Dale is asked to call Derbyshire police on 101.

“I bet he's got a wicked hangover, but it'll be nothing like what his ma will do to him when she gets hold of him!
Reckon he never for one minute thought that anyone was worried - typical 'kid' having fun, whilst the parents go out of their minds with worry!
    Glad he's home safe :)”

“This type of thing used to happen all the time when there were not mobile phones to GPS your every move.

Its an adventure. Going for a night out, meeting some people, then partying for a few days.

People should try it. Its called life.”
