Mum praises work of football star on heart problems
THE mother of a teenager who died of an undiagnosed heart defect has praised a former footballer for his campaign to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrests.
Lisa Jeffrey – whose son, Reece, 15, of Spondon, collapsed while playing football at Darley Playing Fields in March last year – said it was great to see Fabrice Muamba use his high-profile status.
The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder collapsed on the pitch during an FA Cup tie against Tottenham and his heart stopped beating for 78 minutes.
Muamba has now launched the Hearts And Goals campaign. It will see 500 new defibrillators distributed to communities around the country.
