POLICE are investigating how a man ended up under an Ilkeston footbridge with serious head injuries.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, was found in Palmerston Road at about 12.25am yesterday.

He remained in a critical condition in Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre last night.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: "It is unclear exactly how he came to be underneath the bridge.

"It is something we are continuing to investigate."
