MORE than 70 jobs are set to be created at a £1.5 million restaurant which will open at Derby's Riverlights development.

Jimmy's World Grill and Bar has confirmed it will open the 400-seater restaurant on February 8.

It is understood that Jimmy's has taken two out of five available ground-floor units at Riverlights in which to create the restaurant, which will be the firm's second UK location.

The company already has an outlet in Luton and has plans to open a third at the London O2 Arena.

In total, it plans to open eight restaurants within the next three months.

Jimmy's offers an all you can eat, multi-cuisine concept, selling a range of international dishes, including Italian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, Japanese and Indian food.

Among its 100 dishes are pizza, pasta, stir fry sushi and grilled chicken – with customers given the option of choosing dishes on display or having ingredients cooked fresh by its team of 15 chefs in front of them at "live stations".

The firm has already started a recruitment drive for a range of positions, including waiting staff, chefs and management.

Marketing manager Amandeep Uppal said "We are extremely excited to become part of Derby's lively community.

"Jimmy's is about offering our customers choice and quality delivered in a fun and exciting way.

"Each visit is a new experience and there is no better way to sample a wonderful variety of cuisines from all around the world.

"We pride ourselves on the quality and freshness of our food as well as making sure every customer leaves feeling satisfied in every way."

Riverlights, which cost £100 million to build, is now home to a number of major names including hotel chains Holiday Inn and Hampton by Hilton, as well as Genting Club casinos.

John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby, which promotes Derby as a place to invest, said: "I think the fact that Jimmy's has chosen Derby as its second location for a restaurant does speak volumes for the city.

"Getting in quality names is part of the vision to bring the Riverside area to life – making Derby a city that looks towards the river rather than away from it.

"Companies like Jimmy's are buying into that vision and will help make this area a vibrant part of the city."

As part of its opening, from February 8 to 11, the restaurant will be donating £1 from every meal to a charity of the diner's choice.

“Looking back over some Telegraph news articles abut the area around the Riverights/River Gardens, I found these stories which raise serious concerns about the personal safety of customers at these establishments:

“Think I'll be sticking to Friar Gate. Or Sam Widges for a lunch time snack. Always makes me chuckle at the name.”

“Westfield already has an 800 seat diner with "world-wide" cuisine on offer. This is not as busy as it was when it first opened.

I just looked at the web site mentioned by David Brown and they offer nothing that can't be found at any of the hundreds of take-away and fast food joints that litter our city and its suburbs.

I thin the new restaurant on Friar Gate will offer a welcome change with its British cuisine (with a twist).”

“Having just looked at the web site, the food does not look that appealing! In fact, it reminds me of the restaurant in the TV program Benidorm!

    Not for me!”

“This sounds amazing - like a food court. I can't believe Westfield didn't think of this sooner.

Oh hang on - they did.”

“perhaps DerbyFotE could advise me and the other readers exactly when the Market Place was last under flood waters, and how deep they where? (I assume from their scaremongering it was at least 5 foot and people where drowning?)”

“Another all you can eat buffet style restaurant, no wonder there is an obesity problem in the city. The Ambulance service has ordered new ambulances to carry up to 50 stone patients and the Government are giving 5.2 billion to councils to combat the problem. Or is that the idea, allow a lot of these all you can eat type places to open to get a bigger slice of the 5.2 billion? Cynical? You bet.”

“OOPs - thats another 400 people to try and get out onto the Riverside Emergency Gathering Zone (REGZ) when the river floods - hang on though - there will already be an extra 200 workers from the Council house already gathered there, in wellies etc. Ah but no,surely they will then gather in the market place instead? Nope that will be under water too... looks like we are running out of REGZs to go to when the river floods. The Environment Agency did state that there would be twenty minutes warning of the River Derwent flooding, during the Exeter St underground car park inquiry. Best just run then.....
