STUDENT mechanics at South East Derbyshire College have been given a new Toyota car on which to learn their skills.

The Burnaston-based manufacturer has given a Toyota Avensis to the college's motor vehicle department.

The grey estate model was made in Derbyshire for use on site only and was not meant for sale.

Karen Bradley, communications and external affairs manager at Toyota, said: "Supporting education is one of our key focus areas.

"We hope that our vehicle will be a valuable resource for students and staff for many years to come."

It will be used by the college's motor vehicle students, particularly those studying towards NVQ level 3.

The Avensis will give an insight into the workings of a modern vehicle with up-to-date technology and equipment.

Tutor Andrew Gray said: "The car will enable our learners to carry out in-depth diagnostic procedures on a high-quality vehicle."
