New park play area starts with a splash at official opening
A WATER play area at Chaddesden Park will be officially opened tomorrow.
The area in the park off Maine Drive has been created with nearly £200,000 from Derby City Council, the Big Lottery and through landfill taxes.
Residents said they wanted a water area for children to splash about in.
That has now been created and will be officially opened tomorrow by Councillor Alan Grimadell, cabinet member for leisure and culture.
Families are invited to attend the free event, at which activities will include assault courses, grass boarding and den building.
The water play area is open daily throughout the summer, until September 12, from noon to 5pm and it is hoped that more than 2,000 young people and their families will use the new area.
Mr Grimadell said: "The water play area provides an excellent opportunity for children and families to make a splash and have fun, increasing physical activity through play, in a safe and fun environment."
