Nigel Clough expecting a quiet January transfer window
NIGEL Clough is not expecting much movement in or out at Derby County in the January transfer window.
"I don't think we will have too much room to do anything in January and so we will be sticking with the players we have got," said the manager.

Nigel Clough is happy with his cover for Gareth Roberts (pictured).
Derby currently have four players sidelined by injury who would all be starters in the team, if fit.
Shaun Barker is out for the entire season as he recovers from a serious knee injury. Left-back Gareth Roberts (calf) and midfielder Craig Bryson (knee) missed the defeat by Leicester City last weekend and are doubts for Saturday's home game against Leeds United, while striker Jamie Ward has been out for 10 weeks with hamstring trouble.

"If we can get Gareth and Jamie fit, and Craig Bryson, we will be happy with that," said Clough.
Clough confirmed recently that the club is "slightly" over budget when it comes to wages.
Asked if he would like to have more experienced cover for 34-year-old Roberts at left-back, Clough said: "No, with Jimmy O'Connor and Kieron Freeman covering the full-back areas, I think we are OK."
O'Connor, a right-back or central defender, has struggled at times when he has filled in for Roberts.
Freeman, 20, has made three appearances as a substitute this season but he has yet to make a start for the Rams.
Whether or not clubs come calling for any of Derby's players in January remains to be seen.
Scouts have been watching young midfielder Will Hughes. The 17-year-old has been linked with Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Fulham.

“Reports in today's paper say that Forest players have been paid late without explanation, agents who have not been paid for the summer transfer dealings are threatening legal action against the new owners and suppliers have not received their money.
And people wonder why I don't want new owners at Derby !
Learn people, learn.”

“Who was lecturing? Certainly not I.
I was making a reasoned point, illustrating how our current league position isn't as bad (or important) as some would have you believe.
I wouldn't question any poster's desire for DCFC to do well; we're all fans after all (except the trolls), but I will question the logic of opinions if I deem them incorrect - that's the spirit of debate and discussion, and this is a forum intended for discussion.
Oh, and swearing is big....and clever.”

“No need to swear is there! I want the club to progress and progress is showing so dont start lecturing me on what I want or dont want. Of course I want us to beat Leeds and finish top of the league so never question that or you will really offend me.”

“Derwent, I am not in any way suggesting that Cardif, Leeds, Leiceter or Forest have got their financial plan right, just that they are doing it in a different way and have a far greater budget, therefore choice of players at their disposal right now as a result.
Their boards are allowing their managers to spend money on wages and transfers that our manager can't.
Because of this Derby County - whoever is the manager - is at a disadvantage in terms of competing for the players who will stand you in good stead to progress up the league.
In this respect, Derby can not be described as being on a level playing field right here and now. The rights sand wrongs of policy and the long term financial impacts on these clubs are a separate issue.
For anyone to deny this is just plain barmy.”

“Come on stivians11, whilst it's nicer to see Derby in the top half than the bottom half, the table means diddily squat unless it's May.
We're 12pts away from the bottom three, and 6pts away from the top six.
Would you rather those point margins were reversed, but we were sat in 12th ? Because I b.l.o.o.d.y wouldn't!!”

“Okay lets forget about our position in the league a minor point really. Average of 400+ less attending the last three home games must also class as minor point. So its happy days with lovely Leeds and their lovely manager visiting tomorrow an easy three points. Up the Rams!”

“At the moment in the league 16th position means nothing. You win you shoot up 5 places so lets not dwell on the actual position, rather how many points we are off 6th!”

“Sorry I thought I was referring to Derby County as i am not interested in any other club but St Ives Town. What the rest of the clubs in the division do or dont do does not concern me. GSE are you in or are you out because we are going nowhere without investment. Nigel Clough does his best and has made some very astute signings so why are 16th in the league. Investment means in the CLUB which involves not only the management and players it means the long suffering supporters.”

“Agree with most of your post Derwentx.
I do think we have spent some money. I also don't mind the board taking this approach at all. Also agree that Clough sometimes gets his tactics wrong, certainly away from home and when he plays players out of position. That being said, I think he has done a good job and our squad is actually pretty decent at the moment. As people say we are only a few players off being a top six contender. We also have some great young players and the under 21 squad is doing really well. We are 16th yes, but we are still only a few points outside the playoffs. Im not a 'happy clapper' or a 'wrist slasher', I am somewhere in the middle and I think people need to be realistic. This is a decent league and at the moment we have a squad that is young, improving and should fininsh inside the top 10 come the end of the season. I for one am happy to gripe about mistakes in tactics and question some signings, but to suggest that we in a terrible way and that we only sell ect ect is wrong. What is also wrong is suggesting that Clough is doing amazing and its all the boards fault hes had no money, he has done the best job he could. Its somewhere in the middle, and in all honesty it really isnt that bad.”
