Ockbrook stretch away as they are last left unbeaten
LEADERS Ockbrook & Borrowash are the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League after Lullington Park suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday.
And Ockbrook stretched their lead at the top to 32 points by cruising to a six-wicket win over their nearest rivals, reigning champions Spondon.
Another big Matt Lineker innings ensured there were no slip-ups for Ockbrook after their bowlers had done the job, bowling Spondon out for an inadequate 202 with one ball of their 50 overs left.
Skipper Sam Kellogg tried to get them moving with 55 but three other batsmen got beyond 30 without going on to a big score and Gareth Young's 4-51 held them back.
Lineker hit 123 in the reply and Charlie Ault made the most of the rest with 56 not out, as Ockbrook got home with nine overs to spare.
Spondon's defeat would have given Lullington the chance to catch up but they were beaten at Dunstall after posting 212-8, with half-centuries for Ahmed Amla and Jonny Shales.
Craig Jennings took 5-41 for Dunstall and they were boosted by the inclusion of Derbyshire's John Sadler, who hit 92 in the reply.
Matt Gouldstone added 56 and, although Shales took 4-23, and Dunstall wobbled, they completed victory from the last ball, with seven wickets down.
The two sides, who were still searching for a first win of the season, met each other at Ilkeston and it was Elvaston who went away celebrating in another close finish.
They gave themselves an extra couple of overs to chase by bowling Ilkeston out for 191, despite another half-century for Kevin Leatherday.
Danny Randle dominated the reply with 82 and Andy Rhodes steered his side to victory by two wickets in the 50th over, scoring 40 not out.
Alfreton also missed the chance to contest the runner-up spot when they were unable to chase down Alvaston & Boulton's 189-9.
Farhad Masood and Tom Young both took three wickets for Alfreton but Anthony Woolley and Steve Ottewell shared seven for A&B, as they forced Alfreton to hang on for a draw 11 runs short of victory.
Ticknall looked to be in the driving seat at Queen's Park after Paul Borrington's century led them to 261-6 against Chesterfield, spinners Brian Gladin and Simon Lacey going for 80 and 81 respectively, despite taking three wickets each.
But Chesterfield pulled off the chase with one ball to spare, thanks to Andy McCarroll's 89 and 46 from Ross Whiteley.
Ticknall's misery was complete when they lost three points for a slow over rate.
