ORANGE lights spotted in the night sky over Derby have sparked reports of UFOs.

Derby Telegraph readers have told how they saw the mysterious lights above their homes.

Neither East Midlands Airport or the Ministry of Defence have been able to explain the reports.

Aleister Willis, of Wye Street, Alvaston, said he thought the lights were part of a bigger object.

Mr Willis, 33, said: "It consisted of two orange coloured cross shapes, parallel with each other, which moved with an eerie silence over my house.

"But what passed across the sky blocked out the stars. It terrified me.

"I am familiar with flight patterns and helicopter routes and I can say for certain that this was neither.

"There is no explanation. It was a clear night and I would estimate that it was the height of a low-lying cloud."

He then went round to the front of his house, where he claimed he saw the same shapes again. He said: "The same shapes appeared, silently moving back the other way.

"However, this time there were five or six of them – they seemed to fly in unison with some of them darting around.

"I am certain that this was intelligent flight. I have witnessed and filmed Chinese lanterns in the past – it wasn't anything like them."

Meanwhile, Brian Harrison, of Bramfield Avenue, Derby, said he had seen similar lights.

He said: "I saw four orange lights in the sky. My wife saw them first and called me. I wasn't sure what they were."

A spokesman for East Midlands Airport said there had been no flights over the two areas at the time on Wednesday evening when the sightings were reported.

And a Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The MoD examines reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.

"Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported."

Did you see anything on Wednesday night? If so, call reporter Chris Jones on Derby 291111 extension 6405.

“I spotted a orange flickering light from an object flying past my garden yesterday around about 9.30pm in spondon, i activated the camera on my phone, the light immediately went off on the object but i could still see a black object in the sky. when i pointed the camera at the object there appeared to be nothing in the sky however it was still there. it started to move at great speed in short bursts and eventually vanished. I noticed when i snapped the picture that it has left a faint red shadow on my camera lens.”

“We saw the same lights last Sunday night at Markeaton Island. We had not read this story, and wondered what they was to start with. We watched the lights slowly moving above, and have a short footage of the lights”

“I understand why Mr Willis is upset with certain comments being made towards him. I think it is very sad to know that it is taking place in the very first place.

I myself have witnessed and listend to insults or Defermation of character tactics towards my own self. And unfortunatly ignorance towards people that upset the average normality is quite often subjected to inappropriate comments and sometimes leading to seriouse altercations.

Why is it allowed to be acceptable these days. I am proud off mr Willis for speaking out and wish him well for the future and hope that the readers who have tried to disrespect him learn to aprouch others that are out of their comfort zone with more appropiat manners.

Mr Willis please dont let anyone spoil your experiance, and keep up the good work”

“I think Some people are missing the point, UFO doesn't automatically mean aliens are coming, (like in the movies).

Its all in the name, Unidentified Flying Object, so if the lights or object aren't recognisable then its a UFO.

Putting on my Sceptical Hat, Lights at fairgrounds and events can cause this sought of pattern, wonder if anyone has checked if anything like that was going on in the local area?

And if they are aliens, Tinfoil hat time I think”
