AFTER years of great performances, Jeff Bridges has put the icing on the cake with his Oscar-winning performance as Bad Blake, a broken-down, hard-living country and western singer.

He's perfectly cast as Bad Blake, a fading country music star reduced to playing third rate venues as he makes his drunken way through the remnants of his life.

But life gives him one last chance when the musical prodigy he helped turn into a star (Colin Farrell) offers him a support gig slot and a helping hand back up the star ladder.

And then single mum Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist looking for the inside story on how bad Blake really is, awakens lost yearnings.

For the Midweek Treat, Quad has teamed up with the Derby Telegraph to offer an old-style midweek matinee.

Each Wednesday, at 2pm, Qt's film critic Nigel Powlson introduces a film at a bargain price of £5 (£4 concessions) including tea or coffee and biscuits.
