In the 48th minute, Ilkeston were indebted to Jack Watts, who was on the line to head clear an effort by Phil Watt.
There was a bigger debt of gratitude to keeper Chris Martin in the 86th minute.
He saved at the feet of the onrushing Connor Higginson and the ball broke to Alex Troke, who somehow hit the bar.
Grantham's efforts came to nothing when Ricketts turned in a low cross by James Cullingworth in the third minute of added time.
