Philpott trial: Angry scenes outside the court as media interest grown
THERE were angry scenes outside the courtroom as some members of the press were denied access to hear the case yesterday morning.
In the weeks prior to the trial the court service had invited applications of interest from media outlets who had staked their claims as to why they should be given a ticket for the duration of the trial.

Sixteen places have been reserved for the media inside the courtroom and the Derby Telegraph, along with national newspapers, radio stations and TV reporters have been successful in claiming those places.
But those without tickets still arrived to hear Miss Willis give her evidence, only to be turned away. Those who did make it inside were greeted with a court order restricting what could be reported on the case.
