Drivers taking a short cut through Darley Abbey were fined during a police crackdown yesterday.

Officers stopped and fined three motorists who had ignored No Entry signs in the Darley Park Road and Darley Park Drive area in a one-hour period at rush-hour.

Although access is allowed for residents motorists have been using the route to shorten their journey.

PC Rob Singleton, from the Darley team, said: "The local residents have brought this problem to our attention and we intend to put a stop to it.

"It is an offence to drive down past the

'No Entry' signs because of the dangers of hitting a pedestrian. Several fines of £30 were imposed and a number of motorists turned round when they saw us in the area.

"We plan to run this operation regularly over the next few months until people get the message."

“@Hotflush - Ah, I see what you meant now.

I was merely interested as I saw, briefly yesterday, that the many-monickered P_Bear had accused me of having multiple accounts on another article. When I went to put his mind at reast later on, it had vanished, so I let him stew.

The irony of his erroneous accusation did make me smile though.”

“why can't it just be blocked off before the entrance to the small car park for the park? Job done! You can enter the car park from Darley drive and no more problems. SIMPLES!”

“onnhoj2010 - Fair comment, but the fact remains that the no exit signs are there for a reason. Children use the pavement here on the way to school and there is no pavement on the other side for them to walk on, the only other option being the middle of the road.

I don't think the comments about it being a waste of police time etc are entirely justified in this instance. There are always going to be issues in any city which require attention from various authorities, some more worthy than others, however in this instance the Police had obviously received enough complaints to warrant a response.”

“it would be time better spent in city centre were there are vans, lorries, delivering going on pavment and on road, making it unsafe to walkers, and after 10.00am when it is closed to them tere are still the odd ones that get through and of cause the push bikes that are not pushed, in fact they go down there as fast as they can dodging people, but no one seems to care in Derby City Centre you can just do as you like, including going down from the spot on the wrong side of the road past the neptune to carry on delivering lower down the street, and if they dont turn down that way they cut the road out and go between the shops and the toilets.
Not a sign of any policing there, even weth the cameras nothing is done, snack vans turn up after 10.00am and drive on pavement to theirs pitch, when after 10.00am they are not allowed, ????? accidents waiting to happen, and no one seems to notice.”

“@B_o_b1; Someone had posted as, iirc, Pub_Bore in the style of a certain member who finds a lot of his posts removed for some reason.
Wasn't the most humorous thing I've seen on the t'interweb but chuckle-worthy.
I assume as the later posts don't make a huge amount of sense that P_Bear is still incapable of posting something without throwing an insult in?”

“@Derby_Ram - I don't know whether it was or wasn't, I was askign about your comment that you and your son were nearly knocked down by a 'rat runner', and wondering how you knew?

I'm not sure I'd call 3 drivers in an hour, at rush hour, prevalent.”

“Not at all P_Bear. I merely asked to what 'new account' Hotlush referred.

Rein the paranoia in again. I have told you quite openly the number of times I have reported your posts due to abuse. All upheld.”

“onnhoj2010 - In all due respect to you how do you know it wasn't a rat runner?

The problem is obviously prevailent enough for the police to be able to enforce fines.”

“'New account' Hotlush? Surely P_Bear (etc) hasn't been banned again already and had to reinvent himself yet again?”

“I was struggling to tell which was the new account then I realised the original had given his a positive rating and the doppelgänger a negative. Not to worry though, I've evened them out again.”
