Police shine a light on cycle safety
POLICE have teamed up with college students to help improve cycling safety.
Officers have been working with students at Heanor Gate Science College.
They were helped by representatives from Halfords and Groundworks Derby and Derbyshire, who talked to the teenagers about bike maintenance and safety.
Pupils were then taken on a bike ride in Shipley Park, led by Mary Gill from Heanor Clarion Cycling Club.
The project was funded by Tesco's community reward vouchers.
The vouchers were used to purchase lights and helmets for the pupils and to provide refreshments after the Shipley Park bike ride.
PCSO Meikel Miller said: "Alongside the work at the school, we will also be passing out free bike lights and helmets to children in the area to help them stay safe."
