He says: "I speak to the kids who come to our shows and it's really interesting going to places you haven't been for years and picking up vibes from around the country.

"Lots of kids are having quite a black time at the moment.

"They really want to support music but how much can they do?

"There's so many students with loads of debt. It's a real reality check."

Phil is looking forward to playing in Derby, which he describes as a "gritty" place back in the 1960s.

He says: "In our first three years there wasn't a town we didn't play in the UK!

"We played some quite strange venues like cafe bars. Once, 1,000 people turned up to see us at a venue which only held 150 people.

"The place was packed and the crowd had to pass our instruments over their heads and then pass the band over their heads! But it's really nice for us being able to come back to places we haven't seen for 50 years. We went to Liverpool and it's like an entirely different city."

The band will be playing a mixture of old and new material at their gig in Derby later this month.
