Proposed traveller sites withdrawn by county authority
FIVE potential travellers sites earmarked by the county council in the Derbyshire Dales have now been declared as either unsuitable or unavailable, according to the authority.
Derbyshire Dales District Council has a legal obligation to find a traveller site and is currently investigating the feasibility of four pieces of land in Ashbourne, two in Darley Dale and one in Rowsley, Matlock, Tansley, Homeford and Northwood.
In addition, Derbyshire County Council had suggested sites in Snelston, Brassington, Wirksworth and two in Longford.
But the county authority has decided to withdraw these suggestions, leaving the district council with only 11 options.

Last month, the district council deferred a decision on which of these sites should be taken forward for further consultation. It will next discuss the matter at a meeting of its corporate committee tomorrow.
The authority's chief executive, Dorcas Bunton, said the withdrawal of the county council sites was "frustrating". She said: "Councillors already faced an incredibly difficult decision to narrow down the search ahead of more detailed public consultation, so the timing of the withdrawal of the county council sites is frustrating."
