Proud night for Wassall as Derby County beat Manchester City in FA Youth Cup
ACADEMY manager Darren Wassall was "very proud" of his Derby County Under-18 side after they knocked Manchester City out of the FA Youth Cup.
The Rams beat big-spending City 2-0 in last night's fifth round tie at Pride Park Stadium to set up a quarter-final clash at home to Chelsea.

Jamie Hanson is mobbed (main picture) by ecstatic Derby County team-mates after scoring the Rams' second goal against Manchester City in last night's FA Youth Cup fifth round clash at Pride Park Stadium. He found the back of the net with a free kick (above and below) in the 89th minute to seal a 2-0 win as Mason Bennett turns to celebrate.
"We're very proud of the lads," said Wassall. "From the first minute to the last, I thought our application, effort, determination, character and desire shone through – and it set us apart from Man City. We thoroughly deserved our victory."
Adam Wixted opened the scoring just after half-time and Jamie Hanson added a second with a free kick late on.

City had Spanish youth international Jose Angel Pozo sent off in the 84th minute for an alleged stamp on Hanson.
"In the first half we had four or five good chances and we were dominant," said Wassall. "I think we were superior in every aspect.
"So to go out and get that early goal in the second half really gave us a lift and helped us to consolidate our superiority.
"The sending-off summed up their frustration, because they couldn't get a foothold in the game and they couldn't cope with it."
Derby's first-team squad and coaching staff, including manager Nigel Clough, were watching from the stands.
