RENT, the popular modern musical based on Puccini's 1896 opera La Bohème, will be staged by the Beeston Musical Theatre Group from May 14-19.

Featuring memorable tunes like Seasons of Love and Take Me Or Leave Me, RENT focuses on a year in the life of a group of young bohemians trying to make their way through life. However, rather than focussing on poor Parisian artists, the show's protagonists are transported to East Village, New York, in the 1990s. The nineteenth century's tuberculosis becomes AIDs and so the scene is set.

Theatre group members say they have taken inspiration from the Tony Award -winning Broadway production to stage a modern, gritty and raw show.

Promotions officer Rachel Patti said: 'Our audiences seem to enjoy experiencing something new and exciting, and we believe RENT will offer that – it has certainly got everyone involved very excited indeed."
