PUPILS have returned to Derby's Markeaton Primary School less than two weeks after a burglar caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Equipment worth up to £7,000 remains missing but repairs to damaged doors and windows are almost complete.

Head teacher Clare McGarey said: "The council's maintenance department has been very good.

"The school's looking smart and is nearly back to the same quality before the break-in."

The school, in Bromley Street, has eight visually impaired pupils and laptops designed for their needs were stolen in the raid.

These laptops, as well as five overhead projectors, have yet to be recovered by police.
