OFFICERS from the RSPCA have visited a travellers' camp after concerns from members of the public.

Police escorted officers on to the site, in Deepdale Lane, Sinfin, yesterday to look at some horses.

Members of the public have also complained of rubbish on the site but Inspector Paul Cannon, who is in charge of policing in South Derbyshire, said he was unaware of any complaints.

He said: "We were asked by the RSPCA to escort their officers to examine the horses after members of the public called them amid concerns about their welfare.

"I am not aware of any reports of any problems at the site. We have received no complaints from the land owner but, if we do, we can issue the travellers with a code of conduct which could ultimately lead to them being ordered from the site."

Resident Peter Cooper, of Stanton-by-Dale, said: "I have every sympathy for the travellers as they look for a permanent site but I have seen quite a lot of mess as I have walked past.

"It's not a lot of trouble to bag it up and take it to the nearby Raynesway tip."

“davsl - yes I did mean Barrow on Trent, but it doesn't matter, cos DET don't seem to have a clue anyway (they should have said Stanton by Bridge!).
nite73 - the horses are moored on the canal towpath and they don't seem to have enough grass to eat there, the gypsy site is a mess with rubbish all around, and also they are on a locked car park for the use of local fisherman, I wonder how they got in?!!!
Otherwise, have a nice day y'all.”

“Again, sub-standard reporting/editorship - not only don't we know the results of the examination, but this gypsy site is not even in Sinfin, it is next door to Barrow in Furness, just 1/2 a mile away. Lol.”

You can't go in with a van!

Couldn't they leave stuff outside and then a traveller could pick it up?
