A DERBYSHIRE-based charity which has saved thousands of lives across the world by providing clean, safe drinking water is running out of funds to continue its vital work.

Aquabox, which is run by Wirksworth Rotary Club, is desperately low on specialist water purification kits – often used in the aftermath of natural disasters – due to donations drying up during the recession.

Today, to help the charity, which relies solely on public funds, continue its global life-saving operation, the Derby Telegraph is backing its Give Water, Give Life campaign to raise £138,000.

This will help buy a year's supply of new custom-made filters for the boxes, which have been sent to 55 countries across the world, including those affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and last year's cyclone in Burma.
