A RACEHORSE broke through a barrier and fell into a ditch at Uttoxeter Racecourse.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 3.40pm yesterday.

A vet had to sedate the animal so that fire crews could get straps under the animal and winch it out of the ditch, which contained 2ft of water.

They waited until around 5pm when the sedative wore off before getting the horse safely back to its stable.

Neither the horse or its rider were hurt in the incident.

“It is believed that the horse has been freed and emerged unscathed from the incident although this is unconfirmed.”
