SHARP finishing saw Derby County Reserves hit six in a victory over Barnsley Reserves at Oakwell last night.

Jeff Hendrick scored twice and Callum Ball, Conor Doyle, Ben Pringle and Kane Richards also found the net as the Rams ran out 6-2 winners in the totesport.com League Central Division fixture.

Spanish forward Alberto Bueno, who has arrived on a season-long loan from Real Valladolid, looked bright and inventive in his 63 minutes on the pitch.

He started in the centre of the three players behind Ball, the lone striker.

David Martin was to his left and Doyle on the right. Pringle played as one of the two holding midfielders.

Derby took a look at 20-year-old left-back Netan Sansara, who has been released by Walsall. The defender represented England at Under-18 and 19 level and made 27 appearances for Walsall in League One.

Barnsley wide man Martin Devaney tested Saul Deeney early on but Derby went ahead after seven minutes.

Martin raced past right-back John Stones and drove in a low centre for Ball to side-foot in at the near post.

The centre-forward has hit three in the youth team’s first two games of the season and he scored in the Reserves’ victory over Sheffield United two weeks ago.

Bueno’s first contribution of note after 15 minutes showed he has vision.

Instant control allowed him to move into space and with options ahead of him he spotted the least obvious of the passes to put Martin in and his low shot was blocked.

Deeney held a low drive from Jim O’Brien as Barnsley, with former Rams defender Darren Powell playing as a triallist, looked to respond.

But Derby doubled their lead after 25 minutes with another well-worked goal.

Hendrick started and finished the slick move. Pringle and Ball were also involved before Hendrick strode forward and cleverly curled his shot beyond Lukas Lidakevicius and into the corner.

Hendrick turned provider five minutes later as the Rams went three up.

His slide-rule pass split Barnsley’s square backline and Doyle ran on to fire his show low past Lidakevicius.

Four minutes after break, Bueno’s neat touch and turn in centre field was followed by a pass over the top to release substitute Aaron Cole. He pulled the ball back for Ball, who could not reach it, but Hendrick did and smashed his shot into the top corner for Derby’s fourth goal.

Stefan Gallinski’s looping header dropped onto the top of the bar as the Rams went in search of a fifth and Bueno started to enjoy himself.

He comes alive when on the ball and another example of his vision was seen just before the hour mark.

The ball broke to him 35 yards out and, without a second thought, he whipped it towards goal. His effort was heading for the net until the keeper back-pedalled and tipped the ball over.

Pringle was rewarded for another committed display when he scored Derby’s fifth goal after 73 minutes. Cole half-blocked a clearance by Lidakevicius and Pringle guided the ball back over the keeper from 25 yards.

Barnsley pulled one back 14 minutes from time through Steven Bennett.

Richards prodded the ball in from close range for Derby’s sixth goal minutes from the end and the scoring was completed in the 90th minute when Jim O’Brien converted a penalty.
