The owner secured it to the racks and returned later to discover it had been stolen.

"A week earlier, on Thursday, November 8, a bike was stolen from the Pride Park cycle rack at the station.

The bike, a Specialised Hardrock 2013 Edition, was secured at 6.45am. When the owner returned at 6.30pm he discovered it missing. This bike has the word 'SPECIALZED' written on the cross bar.

It is registered online with the manufacturers and also has a unique security reference number marked on it, making it easily identifiable.

Officers have conducted extensive enquiries including reviewing CCTV footage.

“Although I feel extremely sorry for the person whole had the bike stolen by some scum bag, I want to point out that, yes, the bike is one of only 500 made. But it is not however worth over £500, they were never that much brand new!

How do I know this.... Because I bought the exact same one off a friend in the summer with certificate (think mine is no 117/500) for 80 quid and he had the original invoice of £400 from about 3 yrs ago!”
