Rebecca is inspired by father
A RUNNER has been inspired by her father's battle against prostate cancer to raise money to help others with the illness.
Mother-of-three Rebecca Muir will run the London Marathon next month in aid of The Prostate Cancer Charity, which pays for research into the illness.
She was inspired to take action by dad Geoff Chippington, who was diagnosed with the illness in February last year.
The 72-year-old, of Ellison Avenue, Aston-on-Trent, has been given radiotherapy treatment and is now recovering.
Rebecca, 39, of Lysander Drive, Chellaston, said: "Fortunately my dad was diagnosed early after his brother alerted him to the signs and symptoms after he also had prostate cancer.
"There is a 40% increase in the likelihood of getting prostate cancer if your brother has had it. Looking out for signs and symptoms and getting to your GP early increases your chance of survival."
Now she has run more than 800 miles in the past 11 months and completed the Kilomathon race between Nottingham and Derby last weekend. She said: "My aim is to finish the London Marathon in under five hours."
