Recalling how Jeff Chandler helped Derby County to sink Walsall
ON this day in 1986 Derby County beat Walsall 3-1 at the Baseball Ground on their way to promotion from the old Division Three.
The goals came from Jeff Chandler, Geraint Williams and an own goal by Peter Hart.

“Jeff was my 1st favourite winger until Micklewhite then Callaghan came along. £38k was a bargain but they all were back then: Sage, Forsyth, Hindmarch, Wiiliams, Christie, Gee, Davison, Wilson. Even the big names we signed were for decent fees and players would drop 2 divisions to play for Derby - Micklewhite, Gregory
Then McMinn and Simmo were great Derby wingers too - loads of goals and assists.
Wish we still had a pair of wingers and 2 centre forwards to aim at.
Mind you, for all those Sammon bashers, bet he'd have more goals if any of those wingers were playing today.
As an aside, Arthur knew how to build a team from scratch. When you look at the best post war managers, then it's Arthur, TBE, BC and MacKay in no particular order. RoyMac didn't do badly (by win ratio) but couldn't get us across the line. Maybe we're a sentimental lot who want past Rams (and associated) to do well for a second time. Has it ever worked? Taylor, RoyMac, Toddy, now Nigel? Hope he stops the trend!”
