Recycling efforts fund children's swimming lessons
A CHARITY has turned trash into splash by collecting unwanted items to raise money for free swimming sessions for city youngsters.
The Star Foundation, of Burton, will be providing 50 free swimming session vouchers to Derby children each month for the next year, after working with the city council to set up banks at leisure centres for items such as clothing, shoes, bags and belts.

Councillor Martin Repton, cabinet member for leisure and culture at Derby City Council, said: "This exciting initiative gives us the opportunity after Christmas to recycle and reuse unwanted possessions. I'm delighted the community swimming fund will be able to offer 600 free swim sessions this year."
The fund is open to any child aged four to 15 living in Derby.
