Reds fan set for Savage ordeal on charity run
IF you ask a Nottingham Forest fan which footballer they would least like to dress up as, Robbie Savage would probably be high up the list.
But Reds supporter Max Newton is to adopt the trademark look of the Rams skipper – as a dare.
Max, 37, allowed his friends to choose a costume for him to wear during the Great North Run.
Max, who is originally from Nottingham but now lives in Sheffield, ran an online poll.
It was hijacked by his Derby County-supporting mates, who won with "Robbie Savage".
Max, who aims to raise £1,000 for the British Red Cross by completing the half marathon on September 19, joked: "It will be a horrible, humiliating experience.
"I expect to be roundly booed and jeered by those lining the route. Only the thoughts of how much good all the sponsorship will do will keep me going."
So far, Max, who works for the British Red Cross as a fund-raiser, has managed to raise more than £760.
In a bid to gain momentum for the campaign, he met Robbie during a book signing.
"Me and my friend ambushed him in Leicester," said Max.
"We went down with our Forest shirts under our jackets and queued up with Leicester fans to tell him about the run.
"To his credit, Savage was a total gent. He was up for a laugh and posed for photos."
Robbie said: "Max was pretty brave turning up to the book signing in the middle of Leicester dressed in his Forest shirt but it is all for a good cause and I was delighted to help."
Max can be sponsored on his Just Giving page
