Remember MEP Helmer's real priorities at the polls
ROGER Helmer MEP demonstrates with alarming ease just how out of touch the Tories really are, "Time for Tories to fulfil vote pledge on hunting" (Letters, July 7).
At the same time that his party is putting many thousands out of work – including in Derby – he is spouting nonsense about bringing back hunting and saying that it's "about time" they repealed the Hunting Act.
I know how my constituents feel on this, and like the rest of the population, they are overwhelmingly opposed to making hare coursing, stag hunting and fox hunting legal again. They don't want the Government wasting time bringing back blood sports just because the Prime Minister thinks it's fun to hunt.
I hope the residents of Derby remember Mr Helmer's priorities at the next European elections.
Chris Williamson MP

“I had a serious problem when I visted the UK.
Mr. Helmer did everything he could to help me.
I contacted a Labour MP and two Labour ministers.
They ignored me.
Actions speak louder than words.”
