A RESTAURANT and bistro at a multi-million pound retirement village in Swadlincote has opened.

The Oakland Village Restaurant, within the £20 million complex in Hall Farm Road, comprises a restaurant, bistro and bar for residents – and the wider community.

It is one of a number of businesses at Oakland Village which are open to the public, including the Havana Studio hair salon.

A gym and convenience store are due to open shortly.

They are being run through a partnership between local firms and the Trident Reach charity, which provides support services at Oakland Village and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the sheltered scheme.

Richard Bullock, hospitality manager for Trident Reach, said: "It is the first time Trident Reach, as a charity, has managed such social enterprises on a large scale.

"The idea is to create a village where everything is on the doorstep."

Oakland Village has 88 apartments and a specialist residential care centre with 32 beds for people needing extra support.
