MEL Reid's first Ladies European Tour outing of the season ended with her down in a lowly 40th place in the World Ladies Championship in China.

It was an unspectacular return to action for the Derby professional but after struggling to shake off a chest and sinus infection on the eve of the tournament, this was no great surprise.

After opening with two rounds of level-par 72, Reid followed with a 73 on the third day and her hopes of a big finish suffered a setback when she had a double-bogey seven at the first on the final day.

Further dropped shots followed on the fourth, seventh, 10th and 17th, with birdies at the 12th and 15th, in a round of 76 to leave Reid five over for the tournament.
