maintained the standard they've set for themselves in previous

years.

They were on

sparkling form. And The Glory of the Lord and For Unto Us a Child is

Born were both light on their feet, O Thou that Tellest went at a

splendid lick, and His Yoke is Easy had a delicious feeling of living

dangerously.

Of the uniformly

excellent soloists, soprano Nicky Kennedy gave a nimble account of

Rejoice Greatly. Alto Sarah Barham, stepping in at the last minute,

was warm-toned, tenor Nick Drew clear and expressive. Bass Jeremy

Leaman was rich and sonorous tone, but clearly not inclined to match

his colleagues' ready approach to ornamentation.

The Heart of

England Orchestra gave solid support, though their playing in For He

is Like a Refiner's Fire was rather subdued in its impact.

But it was mainly

the choir's show, and the cheers for them at the end were

well-earned.
