Think of all your children’s favourite Disney characters, transform them, magically, into superb ice-skaters and the result is an ice show that will melt even the most cynical of hearts.

Disney on Ice is touring with Let’s Party. That’s the good news. The bad news is that you really do need to get your skates on to catch this vibrant and fast-moving show as the tour has almost ended and you can only see it until Sunday at Nottingham’s Capital FM Arena.

So if you’re quick and can manage to grab yourselves some tickets, expect to be bedazzled.

The line-up of characters is endless with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse the obvious stars of the show, although Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear probably secured the loudest welcome of the night.

Of course, no good show can be without its villains and suddenly the smiles and happy waves are swapped for a Halloween scene featuring Cruella de Vil and other baddies.

There is no distinct plot but there’s most definitely a theme and it’s one of celebration. The characters take us on a journey of the various celebrations in a year with the highlight (for us) a snowy, sparkly Christmas scene to end the night.

With such a young and demanding audience this has to be a fast-paced show and it doesn’t fail on that score. The costumes are great, the set simple and the special effects – including fire, the lighting and fireworks – are stunning. There’s even a cinema-sized screen adding a different dimension to the action. Perhaps the only weakness is the acoustics.

But best of all is the talent and flare of the skaters. They are truly mesmerising. Even if you’re not wild about Walt, I defy you not to be impressed by them, especially when they perform collectively.

If you have under 10s in your family, Let’s Party won’t disappoint. And if you’re anything like us it will make you want to dig out your old skates and get out on the ice yourself. And to us, Capital FM Arena seems the perfect place to do it.
