Review: I'm Going To Explode
by Neil White
TWO disillusioned and rebellious teenagers run away from home together in the Mexican drama I'm Gonna Explode.
-

TEEN DRAMA: I'm Gonna Explode has a gripping finale.
Roman (Juan Pablo De Santiago) and Maru (Maria Deschamps) are the two loners who hook up and realise their mutual disenchantment with the world (particularly school and their parents).
Their early relationship is one of awkwardness which develops into love, albeit of little sentimentality.
There are some comedic moments, particularly in the early stages when they hide out in a tent on a balcony of Roman's home, yards from where police and parents are discussing the search for them.
This brilliantly hammers home the relatives' blindness with regard to their offspring.
And nobody demonstrates the gulf more than Roman's father (Daniel Gimenez Cacho), a high-flying politician, who puts up a front about caring for the whereabouts of his son while really being more concerned about his career.
Eventually the young couple go on the road but are wildly naive in their expectations of a potential new life and, thus, disappointment and disillusion come quickly.
They are then faced with the question of they will resolve their futures.
This leads to a gripping finale.
