CHRIS Riggott says he is excited at the prospect of playing some football after being handed the chance to revive his injury-hit career with Burton Albion.

The 31-year-old former Derby County and Middlesbrough centre-half has signed until the end of the season after spending some time training with the Brewers.

He had attempted to make a comeback this season with the Rams, initially signing a one-year contract based on appearances – but he did not appear for the first team before the deal was terminated in the week before Christmas.

It is understood that his deal with Burton will also be based on appearances but Derby-born Riggott hopes he can put his injury concerns behind him.

"I'm excited and looking forward to playing some football," said Riggott.

"It's been a difficult few years for me.

"Obviously, I live locally and it was a good option.

"I know (assistant manager) Gary Rowett and the manager and they've given me the option of coming down here to train and it's a good set-up.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to try to prove, to myself as much as anything, that I can still play."

“Good luck to him. I was really hopeful that we'd get to see him in a Rams shirt again - alas, that wasn't meant to be.

But who knows? If Chris can get some games and prove his fitness at Burton, Clough isn't afraid of raiding his old club!!”
