Dent, 32, and partner Shaun Binfield, 44, both of Kilbourne Road, Belper, deny the manslaughter of their son and cruelty to a person under the age of 16.
Dent said to an officer "I put the methadone in one of his beakers last night. I didn't know where to put it. He obviously thought it was juice or pop."
