Road closed as gas cylinder catches fire in Drakelow
FIREFIGHTERS remained at a Drakelow farm overnight amid fears that a gas cylinder could explode.
Emergency services were called out to the scene in Cornwall Road at 10.30am following reports of a blaze in an outbuilding.
And the area was evacuated and road closed after fire crews discovered that a acetylene cylinder was inside the building.
An acetylene explosion can create a fireball of up to 25 metres and throw shrapnel up to 200 metres.
Firefighters spent several hours extinguishing the blaze and were expected to remain at the scene until today to monitor the cylinder.
