SOLDIERS from Derbyshire's infantry regiment will be marching through Ripley on Monday.

Members of 2nd Battalion, Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters) are marching through the town to celebrate being given the Freedom of the Borough – granted by Amber Valley Borough Council in January.

Town centre roads will be closed between 10.15am and noon and the Market Place car park will be closed from Sunday morning.

It is expected about 300 soldiers from the battalion will take part, assembling in Market Place before starting the parade at 11am.

They will march down Church Street, along Nottingham Road, up Grosvenor Road and down Derby Road to the finish at Ripley Leisure Centre, where a reception will be held.

The council said buses might be delayed.
