"People never cease to amaze me, though coming from the area myself, I've grown up with a sense of community and know it's an area where people do help each other."

Robert gave last year's fund-raiser of the year award to Mick Mills.

Parkinson's sufferer Mick, despite needing round the clock care, has raised more than £20,000 for various charities.

He has now taken on the role of fund-raising coordinator at the Green Gables care home in Alfreton, where he is a resident.

The 57-year-old, a member of the Ripley Rotary Club, raised the staggering sum of £7,500 in one year alone.

Robert said: "Mick is an extraordinary man.

"Against great odds, he's raised so much money for Parkinson's UK, Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation.

"No matter what the disability, people are still people with feelings. Mick is an inspiration.

"And, if you know someone who's a caring, helpful, loving person, who has helped others in the community, then nominate them!"

This year's awards feature 14 nominations: carer, fund-raiser of the year, cultural champion, diversity, achieving against the odds, children in the community, courage, extra mile, great neighbour, kindness to animals, unsung sporting hero, the Chief Constable's special award, the Mayor's volunteer award and the "be inspiring" award.
