ILKESTON have signed 21-year-old defender Ryan Hastie from Central Midlands League side South Normanton Athletic.

The centre-back impressed in a friendly against Leicester City last week and Robins boss Kevin Wilson has given him the chance to make the step up to the Evo-Stik League Premier Division.

"When Ryan was recommended to us, we took him to play at Leicester City in a behind-closed-doors friendly – and we liked what we saw," said Wilson, who plucked striker Aaron Hooton from East Midlands Counties League outfit Basford United earlier this season.

"We think he has good potential and the challenge now is for him to prove he can make the step up from the Central Midlands League.
