Rogers and Hinds repair damage
Chris Rogers and Wavell Hinds hauled Derbyshire out of early
trouble in a rain-interrupted first day of their LV County
Championship match against Leicestershire at the County
Ground.
Derbyshire were 15-2 as Leicestershire made good use of the
plentiful swing after winning the toss and putting the home
side in.
Dan Birch was caught behind for three at 6-1 when Nadeem Malik
moved the ball away from him and Dominic Telo followed for
eight as Tom Smith, on loan from Lancashire, found extra bounce
to take the shoulder of the bat for Boeta Dippenaar to claim a
catch at second slip.
Rogers completed his half-century off 86 balls with nine fours
but, in the following over, on 52, he drove firmly at a wide
ball from James Allenby and Dippenaar took a very good diving
catch at second slip.
Before Rikki Clarke could reach the middle to replace him, the
rain forced an early end to the day's play with Hinds 33 not
out and the score 111-3.
