Room for 36,600 properties by 2026
BY 2026, the Government wants Derby City Council, South Derbyshire District Council and Amber Valley Borough Council to build 36,600 homes.
Of the 14,400 homes needed in Derby, 2,632 were built between 2006 and 2009; in Amber Valley 1,416 of 10,200 were built, and in South Derbyshire 1,618 of 12,000 were built.
Hundreds of sites which could be used to build the remaining homes have been identified by the three councils.
The number of houses that could be accommodated is far higher than is needed.
The city council has found space for 18,120, South Derbyshire 43,197 and Amber Valley 38,000.
The sites have been revealed as part of the first stage of public consultation into development strategies, which finishes on March 31.
Councils will publish their "preferred options" this summer. A public examination on the subject is likely in spring 2011.
Details and maps of the potential sites can be found at http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/environment/land_premises/land_availabilty/SHLAA/sites_plans/default.asp.
Full details of the three councils' strategies can be found on their websites.

“See my comments in the other news item. You must act now to oppose this.
At a Council meeting last night in Mickleover Lucy Care said the government imposed deadline of 31st March was inadequate and she would ensure that protests from Derby residents would be accepted for another couple of weeks after the official closing date. All of the local councillors in Mickleover oppose these proposals.”
