Royal Crown Derby must be celebrated by locals
ON the theme of things to be proud of in your home town, I recently visited Royal Crown Derby.
I learned that royal approval needs to be agreed with each new accession to the throne.
The highlight of my visit was a tour of the factory. We had an excellent guide taking us through each stage of the process, from the raw ingredients, the forming and firing stages until we saw the translucency of the bone china and marvelled at the skill of the artists doing the decorating.
Each stage is handled by highly-skilled staff, ensuring the finest quality, handmade bone china. And it's then that you appreciate the price tags.

I also enjoyed the museum, charting changing styles in tableware and ornaments as well as displaying commemorative pieces.
You can browse in the shop and choose from a beautiful range of Royal Crown Derby. There are bargains to be had among the more expensive tableware, collectibles and giftware.
The shop also stocks a variety of affordable gifts other than bone china.
You can relax in the coffee shop. The food is delicious and the prices reasonable.
It's lovely to drink tea from a Royal Crown Derby tea cup. Part of Derby's proud heritage that puts us on the map for all the right reasons. Another example of local industry to cherish, celebrate and support.
