Royals facing benefits cut over 'bedroom tax'?
I WAS interested to read an article concerning the proposed introduction of the "bedroom tax" which will see those funded from the public purse who have a spare bedroom have their benefits slashed by 25%.
Given the Government's oft repeated mantra "we're all in this together", we should perhaps spare a thought for the hefty bill soon to be dropping through the letterboxes, of our much-loved royal family.
With Her Majesty's ownership of Balmoral, Sandringham etc plus a myriad of properties owned by a multitude of family members, the proceeds cascading from this royal flush should cut through the deficit like a hot knife through butter.
With the Liberal Democrats, as always, at the front of the queue signposted "ethics and righteousness", advocating the introduction of a "jewellery tax", our head of state and her kin must now be wishing they'd stayed home in Hanover.

“Derby born you are incorrect to assume that the crown estates belong to the royal family. Way back it was handed over to the Government in exchange for the civil list. At one time the crown estates paid for the national debt and the running of parliament.
When you start to look at how the crown estates came about it should now belong to the people.”

“Mike Teece was correct in one thing, even though he only stated it with sarcasm:
The Royal Family is indeed much loved in this country.”

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, Mr Treece. You seem to be totally ignorant of the facts concering the 'bedroom tax'. It applies to tenants of local authority housing not those one owns.
Given your use of the word 'ownership' you seem to have something of an egg-covered face.
Might I also ask why, as a Nottingham resident you have seen fit to subject us with a pointless, ignorant and inaccurate outpouring of tedium? Has the Nottingham Evening Post seen fir not to publish your drivel, or do you copy it to many publications in the vane hope of seeing your name in print? Truly pathetic.”

“Jewelry tax? The Queen's jewelry is not her personal property, it belongs to the state, so just how much tax do you want us to pay?
Also do not forget that the Crown Estates paid £250million into the exchequer last year, the cost of the Monarchy was £31million.
As to Bedroom tax, this is not a tax it is a penalty for unused bedroom space in rented Social Housing where the occupants are on housing benefits, it does not affect people who are employed. I do agree that this is unfair on many people who are living in houses with an extra room, I can see that they are trying to release unused space so that they can house more people, but this is a misguided attempt that will possibly result in higher costs.
As to palaces, they employ hundreds of tax paying staff who live on the premises, Buckinham Palace has 128 rooms occupied by employees, all paying income tax, maybe if they made them all redundant and paid the benefits so that they could rent the rooms, this would make Mick Teece happy?
Incidentally, the French Eleysee Palace costs €81million a year, of French tax payers money just to keep the place running, thst is more than all the British palaces put together.”
