BURTON lit up a dark and dismal afternoon at Peel Croft with another seven-try performance to bury Stratford upon Avon.

They came close several times and were winning plenty of lineout ball from the opposition in the early stages before a burst through the line by full-back John Philliskirk led to Dan Smith feeding Dave Archer for the first try.

Philliskirk, finishing off a well-worked move, scored the next one himself under the posts, Tom Bartram converting for 12-0 after 25 minutes.

Stratford hit back after this and second row Florient Vialen crashed over to put them on the board.

A remarkabe try followed for Burton as Darryl Banton slung an erratic pass high over Ian Gilmour's head, only for Bartram to gather and set off on a long crossfield run before selling the Stratford defence a one-handed dummy and strolling over in the corner.

Next, Gilmour sliced through the visitors' ranks and fed Lawrence Betty, who dived over. Bartram converted for 22-5 at half-time.

Burton dealt with a spell of Stratford pressure at the start of the second half before gaining the ascendancy again.

Bartram landed a 30-yard drop goal to get the score moving again, then Dan Smith raced over in the corner.

Craig Dutton crashed over for the sixth try and the seventh, from another rapid Smith burst, was converted to complete an emphatic victory.
