£3m shake-up at Derby's railway station
COMMUTERS are set to get vastly improved access to Derby's railway station with a revamped car park, new taxi rank and bus terminus, costing £3m.
As part of the regeneration plan a derelict rail building next door will also be brought back into use as office space.

Already £22m has been spent on revamping the station, improving the crumbling platforms and replacing canopies.
Subject to planning approval, the latest schemes are expected to start in the summer and last for 12 months.
Chief executive of Derby Cityscape John Cadwallader said: "The recent improvements have made a huge difference. It is, therefore, important that we continue the investment."
East Midlands Development Agency and European Regional Development Fund are putting up £1.75m for work on the interchange outside the station entrance, along with £50,000 from Derby City Council.
A further £1.3m has been secured from Emda, Network Rail and the Railway Heritage Trust for the office plans.
Jim Frogatt, chairman of transport users' group Travelwatch East Midlands, said that the changes were much needed.
He said: "It's no good knocking five minutes off journey times if you have to spend 10 minutes finding somewhere to park or trying to get to the station entrance."

“The story is heavily biased against heritage and restoration as it mentions "the ageing Victorian Station bulding" being demolished and replaced with "a modern building", When you consider everyone else is spending money on the restoration of railway stations, Nottingham is a local example, but St. Pancrass and Charing Cross, all of these Victorian buildings, have been restored. Derby has a very dull uninteresting and an archhitectural misfit. I have heard so many comments from visitors who ask wy Derby has abandoned the attractive Victorian building in favour of a shed!
The current building should be torn down and replaced with something that fits in with what was the oldest railway station complex in the country (built in 1839). Replacing Victorian slendour with modern trash like the current station was clearly a bad move.”
