SANDIACRE'S NORTHERN TEST
SANDIACRE Town head north on Sunday, hoping to keep alive their hopes of a second visit to Lord's.
They are away to Chester-le-Street in Durham in the quarter-final of the Cockspur Cup – the competition they won in a dramatic final against Bath in 2003.
Chester-le-Street knocked out Derbyshire Premier League leaders Ockbrook & Borrowash in the previous round and Sandiacre captain John Trueman – one of a handful of survivors from the 2003 team – has not been slow to take advice from his local rivals.
“I've spoken to Johnny Owen at Ockbrook about Chester-le-Street and picked up a couple of useful bits about them,” said Tureman.
“They'll obviously be a dangerous side but we'll be at full strength, the spirit around the club is pretty good and we know that, if we play as well as we can, we'll have a hell of a chance.”
Ockbrook made the long journey to Durham the night before but Sandiacre, who are at home to Alfreton in the league on Saturday, will get on a bus early on Sunday morning.
“That's what we did for the last round, at Kendal, and I think this trip will be about the same length,” added Trueman.
